101st Airborne in Congress.

“They’ve got us surrounded — the poor bastards!”

Those words are attributed to a member of the 101st Airborne during World War II when they were surrounded by the Germans at Bastogne.  For months, when resistance seemed futile and surrender something many would understand, they held out against unspeakable odds.  But, the tenacity in which they fought for that in which they believed saw them through to victory.  They were finally relieved when reinforcements arrived in November.

November.

How does that theme resonate with you?

These Tea Party patriots in Congress are surrounded and taking a beating.  They are surrounded by all the established politicians on both sides of the aisle and the media.  Last year, they parachuted into enemy territory and infiltrated their lines.  Now these patriots are in the thick of the fight and all odds are against them.  But, they choose to fight.  Surrender would be understandable to many, but not to them.  They could easily succumb to all the allures of Washington and leave our problems for another time.  But they are holding the line.

The more I research this current “crisis”, the less worried I am.  The market place does not seem too concerned about it.  Why should I?  The fact is that a failure to raise the debt ceiling will not cause a collapse.  Our government debt, Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, and military salaries will all be paid with regular tax revenues.  The rest will amount to an immediate 40% spending cut.
